A More Practical Way to Live Sustainably
Sustainable living doesn't have to mean completely changing the way you live. Sometimes it starts with something much smaller: the way you handle food scraps, what you buy for your home, how much you throw away, or one everyday habit you decide to change.
Hi, I'm Stephen McCoy.
Creator of Sustainable LifestyleI created Sustainable Lifestyle because I believe sustainable living should be useful in real life, not something that only sounds good on paper.
This site is where I explore practical ways to reduce waste, compost more effectively, make a home more sustainable, and make everyday choices that are a little kinder to the environment.
Why I Started Sustainable Lifestyle
The idea behind Sustainable Lifestyle is straightforward: make sustainable living easier to understand and easier to put into practice.
Sustainability can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are endless recommendations about what to buy, what to avoid, what to recycle, what to compost, and how to make your home greener. The amount of information can leave you wondering where you should actually begin.
I wanted this site to approach the subject differently.
Instead of treating sustainability as a pursuit of perfection, Sustainable Lifestyle focuses on the practical decisions that ordinary households can actually make. A small change that you can maintain is often more valuable than an ambitious change that lasts for a week.
“Sustainable living isn't about getting everything right. It's about making better choices consistently.”
That's the philosophy behind the articles you find here. Whether you're trying to reduce the amount of food waste your kitchen produces, start composting, choose more sustainable household products, or simply understand where to begin, the goal is to give you information you can actually use.
What You'll Find Here
Sustainable Lifestyle covers practical aspects of sustainable living, with a particular focus on the home. The subjects may be different, but they all come back to the same question: how can we make more sustainable choices without making everyday life unnecessarily difficult?
Composting & Food Waste
Practical information about composting, food scraps, countertop compost bins, kitchen composting, odors, pests, and ways to keep organic waste out of the trash.
Waste Reduction
Realistic ideas for reducing household waste, reusing what you already have, and gradually moving toward a lower-waste lifestyle.
Sustainable Home
Practical approaches to making everyday spaces more environmentally conscious while keeping them comfortable and functional.
Sustainable Choices
Guides and reviews designed to help readers understand their options before deciding what is right for their household.
How I Approach the Content
I don't want Sustainable Lifestyle to be another website that simply repeats the same sustainability advice found everywhere else.
When researching a topic, I try to look beyond the obvious answer and consider how the advice works in an actual home. What happens when a compost bin starts smelling? What should you do when fruit flies appear? Is a particular product genuinely useful, or does it simply look sustainable? What trade-offs should you consider before making a purchase?
Those practical questions matter because sustainable choices are rarely completely black and white. Materials, durability, maintenance, convenience, cost, and how something is actually used can all influence whether a choice makes sense.
My aim is therefore not to tell every reader that there is only one “right” answer. It's to give you enough useful information to make a decision that fits your circumstances.
A Note About Recommendations
Some articles on Sustainable Lifestyle include product recommendations and reviews. When they do, the purpose is to help readers understand the differences between available options and decide whether a product is appropriate for their needs.
Sustainable Lifestyle may participate in affiliate programs, which means I may earn a commission when a reader purchases something through a qualifying affiliate link. This does not change the price you pay.
Affiliate relationships are disclosed because transparency matters. A recommendation should be useful to the reader whether or not it results in a purchase.
